ST. HELEN CATHOLIC SCHOOL IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE NEW FACULTY & STAFF
St. Helen Catholic School is proud to announce the following new faculty and staff for the 2018-2019 School Year.
Ms. Meaghan Sherer is an alumna of St. Helen Catholic School and John Carroll Catholic High School. She is a lifelong resident of Vero Beach and is thrilled to be teaching fourth grade this year side by side with her former teacher, Mrs. Mary Lewis. Ms. Sherer received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Seton Hall University. She completed her student teaching in a third-grade general education classroom and a fourth and fifth-grade special education classroom as well as a fifth-grade co-taught classroom. “I knew I wanted to be a teacher at a very young age,” remarked Mrs. Sherer, “I am excited to be back at St. Helen Catholic School and look forward to using my knowledge, skills, and ability in educational technology and best practices to help my students excel in their academics.”
Mrs. Jennifer Palko will be teaching Middle School Science. She is also an SHCS graduate and has a strong family history to Indian River County. Mrs. Palko brings 11 years of Middle School teaching experience to our campus. Before joining SHCS, she taught at Storm Grover Middle School and Oslo Middle School. Mrs. Palko earned her Bachelor of Science with honors in Interdisciplinary Science with an emphasis in Chemistry from the University of South Florida. She also attended graduate school at Mercer University, School of Pharmacy. Mrs. Palko remarked, “After 11 years of teaching and being rated as highly effective, highly qualified I am thrilled to be back at my alma mater, St. Helen Catholic School. I have a long family history here as my mother also attended.”
Mrs. Sue Fredrickson will be serving as a substitute for Mrs. Whipple in class 2B. Mrs. Fredrickson received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Ed and M.Ed as a Reading Specialist K-12 from Florida Atlantic University. Recently retired, Mrs. Fredrickson has over 25 years of teaching experience in both Indian River County and St. Lucie County in grades K-3. She has also served as an adjunct at IRSC and FAU for pre-service teachers. “Since being retired for almost a year, I realized I was missing the joy of being around children,” remarked Mrs. Fredrickson. “I love the idea of a private school environment after all of my years working in the public school system, and I am very excited to join the faculty at SHCS.”
Mrs. Sandi Harpring has joined SHCS as Communications Coordinator. Harpring is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Professional Management. She has over two decades of communications and public relations experience in the private and public sector in Indian River County including the Florida House of Representatives, The Florida Bar Association and the Samaritan Center. She has served as the fundraising chair for the SHCS Annual Gala for the past five years and has been instrumental in securing much-needed funding and marketing for our campus. “My Catholic faith is very important to me, and I welcome the opportunity to pursue a vocation that allows me to use my talents to help sustain Catholic education,” remarked Harpring. “To say that I am excited to join the SHCS community is an understatement.”
“I am pleased to welcome Ms. Sherer, Mrs. Palko, Mrs. Fredrickson and Mrs. Harpring to their new positions. All these women have exemplary work ethics and deep roots here at SHCS; their love for St. Helen Catholic School is immediately evident. I know that they will do wonderful things for our school community for many years to come,” said Mrs. Lisa Bell, Principal.
