Income-based Scholarships Application for 2021-22
The application window for new students and siblings of currently enrolled FES students to apply for the Income-based Scholarship program (FES or FTC) for the 2021-22 school year has not been released at this time. Parents may visit Step Up for Students website to sign up for updates https://www.stepupforstudents.org/for-parents/income-based/interest-list/
You may now qualify for the Step Up for Students Scholarship! The first important change is that Step Up for Students will recognize and consider any changes in income due to COVID-19. While you previously may not have qualified due to excess income, you now have an opportunity to qualify. If your income has changed, you need to submit a letter from your employer stating loss of job or hours and proof that you have applied for unemployment. If you have already applied but have not received a reply yet, you should write that in a letter and attach it to the application.
Income tax forms are not required! Due to the coronavirus, you do not need to submit completed tax forms for 2019 to qualify. All that is needed is a current earnings statement. Typically, a check stub will suffice. If you are earning less or not working due to COVID 19, just follow the guideline in item "1" above.
Once you qualify, you stay eligible for future years! If you qualify for this year’s Family Empowerment Scholarship, you will not need to "qualify" again regardless of your income. This change was just signed into law in the past few weeks.
