Officer Hector Hurtado, Jr., was born and raised in Indian River County and grew up in Sebastian. He is a graduate of Sebastian River High School and attended Indian River State College where he graduated with his Associates Degree in 2010. He is married with two children. Officer Hurtado always had a desire to become a Law Enforcement Officer and was accepted into the Law Enforcement Academy at IRSC Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex where he graduated with Law Enforcement Class #149. While completing his law enforcement training, he applied with the Vero Beach Police Department who hired him as a sworn law enforcement officer upon his graduation. Officer Hurtado has continued his education and training by taking advance training courses provided by, IRSC Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex. He has acquired several certificates, including, School Resource Officer, Critical Intervention, and Life Skills, which he will be teaching to 5 th grade at St. Helen Catholic School. He recently earned a spot as a new member of Vero Beach Police Department’s, Crisis Response Team. As a teen Officer Hurtado enjoyed playing competitive soccer in the United States and Europe, and is currently the head coach for the boys soccer program at Sebastian River High School. Officer Hurtado has always wanted to work as a School Resource Officer and is very excited to be a part of the St. Helen Catholic School family.
